Language and AI Projects
Trankos Consulting supports language-technology adoption, legal-linguistic projects, and EU-funded language programmes across Kosovo and the Western Balkans, with project experience dating to 2004.
Completed work includes the full legal and linguistic review of the Criminal Code of Kosovo and the Criminal Procedure Code of Kosovo for the OSCE, and Trados Studio implementation, licensing, and training across Kosovo's judiciary, including the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court, and multiple Kosovo ministries.
As Key International Expert and Head of the Translation and Training Component within the GTZ/GIZ Support to the Office of the Prime Minister project (EuropeAid/113827/D/SV/KOS, 2004), principal language expert on the EU-funded Support to Legal Translators, Interpreters and Legal Linguists in Kosovo project (EuropeAid/128983/D/SER/XK, 2012), and presenter of original research on Large Language Models and AI-assisted translation at the 2025 International AI Conference, Trankos has contributed directly to the development of Kosovo's institutional language capacity.
Large language models have accelerated certain translation workflows and made AI-generated content a routine feature of institutional communication, but they have also introduced new categories of error that are difficult to detect without deep regional and legal-linguistic knowledge. For a language services provider operating in the Western Balkans, this creates a specific responsibility: Albanian, Serbian, and Macedonian are underrepresented in LLM training data, which means model outputs in these languages carry higher risk of fluency-masking errors, mistranslation of legal or institutional terms, and culturally inappropriate register.
Trankos addresses this directly: reviewing, validating, and correcting AI-generated content for institutional clients, and advising on where AI-assisted workflows are appropriate and where they are not.
Trankos Consulting's position is practical rather than ideological: AI tools are useful for volume and consistency in controlled domains; human oversight by linguists with genuine regional expertise remains essential wherever accuracy, legal validity, or institutional accountability is at stake.
